Welcome to Riverside Tollers, where we actively breed, show, compete and hunt with our versatile Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers (aka "Tollers")!

The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is described in the official breed standard as being "developed in the early 19th century to toll, lure, and retrieve waterfowl. The playful action of the Toller retrieving a stick or ball along the shoreline arouses the curiosity of the ducks offshore. They are lured within gunshot range, and the dog is sent out to retrieve the dead or wounded birds. This medium-sized, powerful, compact, balanced dog is the smallest of the retrievers. The Toller's attitude and bearing suggest strength with a high degree of agility.  He is alert, determined, and quick, with a keen desire to work and please."

As active members of our breed's parent club (Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Club-USA), we believe that Tollers should continue to be bred with the goal of preserving the breed's original purpose as a duck dog.  Not only do we participate in AKC and HRC hunt tests with our dogs, but we also test our breeding dogs in the NSDTRC(USA) field tests... or working certificate tests... which also incorporate the tolling aspect of hunting that the breed was originally developed for.  You'll see many of our own dogs with these working certificate titles (WC, WCI, WCX).

While hunting is one of the main goals of our breeding program, we value the versatile all-around Toller, and we strive to produce dogs that have a sound temperament and possess the drive, intelligence and athletic ability to compete in just about any sport you may choose... but first and foremost, we breed with the intention of creating a wonderful family dog.  We have puppies/dogs competing in many different sports and events all across the U.S., including obedience/rally, agility, scentwork, tracking, service dog work, trick competitions, and of course conformation and hunting/retrieving.

We are always happy to answer questions and talk about our favorite little duck dogs, so feel free to send an email, text, or message us through our Facebook or Instagram accounts!
